Protecting your Skin from the Sun
It’s important to protect our skin from the sun year round, but especially from summer into fall and winter! Let’s chat about ingredients for sunscreen!
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻𝗲?
The first choice is between chemical sunscreen and physical sunscreen.
– Take a look at the graphic and you’ll see that physical sunscreen is a better choice because it includes ingredients that protect your skin at the surface, bouncing the UVA rays (which can lead to skin cancer, wrinkling, and aging) as well as UVB rays (which cause sunburn) off your skin!
– A chemical sunscreen absorbs into your skin and then absorbs the UVA and UVB rays. I’d rather block the rays at the surface of my skin!
𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁, 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. 𝗔 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹:
· 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 (this means the formulation will protect you from both UVA rays and UVB rays)
· 𝗦𝗣𝗙 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟯𝟬
· 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮 (look for 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗰 𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗱𝗶𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗱𝗲 – these help provide that physical barrier)
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱:
– Oxybenzone
– Octinoxate
𝗪𝗵𝘆? Research shows that the above ingredients found in many chemical sunscreens have been found to be endocrine and hormone disruptors, as well as damaging to the ecosystem in our lakes and oceans! When you apply sunscreen, it’s not only impacting your body, but when you jump in the water, it can rinse off and affect the ecosystem in our lakes and oceans! The ingredients above have even been banned in Hawaii due to reef damage.

- After choosing a safe, natural sunscreen, you can find added protection with our Sheer Minerals makeup or Tinted Moisturizer! Apply sunscreen like a makeup primer on your face, and follow up with our liquid foundation or Mineral Foundation! The mineral formulas provide a natural barrier of SPF 15-20. (They are not officially SPF related but we know the minerals help!)
- . Wear Protective Clothing: Lightweight, long-sleeved shirts and pants can provide a great barrier against UV rays. Look for clothing with built-in UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) for added protection.
- Wear a Hat: A wide-brimmed hat can shield your face, ears, and neck from direct sunlight. It’s a stylish and practical way to stay cool and protect your skin.
- 3. Wear Sunglasses: Protect your eyes from harmful UV rays with a good pair of sunglasses. Look for ones that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays to keep your eyes safe!
Remember, taking a few extra steps can make a big difference in keeping your skin healthy and happy all year round.
